2010 Charge Conference

Annual Charge Conference -- The Rev. Seok Hwan Francis Hong, RISEM District Superintendent, led the 2010 conference on Sunday December 12th. While claiming that he speaks broken English, Francis spoke eloquently about Christ working in his life and inspired us to further our mission work in working together as one in the body of Christ. THE PASSING OF JAMES SEYMOUR - James Seymour, former member NKUMC, active lay speaker and founder of our Shepherding group, died peacefully at his home in Florida. Devoutly faithful throughout his life, Jim will always be remembered for his cheerful greetings and his special concern for others. He founded the NKUMC  Shepherding group nearly 12 years ago, shortly after his arrival in Rhode Island, and for many years was also the chairperson for the South County Lay Speakers group, whose members included lay speakers from the United Methodist churches in North Kingstown, Kingston and Westerly.  TRIBUTE | OBITUARY

Pastor Lori returns to the pulpit - Pastor Lori Eldredge delivered her first sermon after returning from medical leave Sunday October 31. She thanked God and the congregation for supporting her during the last few months. She is still undergoing cancer treatment. Photo at right, Lori leads the congregation in praying for the concerns raised by the congregation for all God's people. Return to Louisiana -- The Rev. F. Richard Garland and his wife, Cathy, have returned to the Gulf Coast again this year to help with recovery efforts, 5 years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the area. For the couple, the mission is their second trip in two years. READ REV GARLAND'S DAILY JOURNAL FROM NEW ORLEANS | Surprise! -- Last week in New Orleans, Rev. Fish Fry Raises Donations for North Kingstown Food Pantry - The United Methodist Men's event on Saturday October 9 raised $1,000 for the local pantry.

Pastor Lori returns during her recovery from surgery -- The congregation was inspired by Pastor Lori's visit following cancer surgery. Photo above, Lori is served Holy Communion as she worshipped at the back of the church with the ushers during services Sunday, October 3, 2010. She continues to recover but still faces radiation treatment. Lori says, "So far, the news has all been good." Pastor Linda Shevlin was the guest preacher and also inspired the congregation by telling members they have a unique opportunity to serve their pastor during her illness. PHOTOS FROM WORSHIP

Harvest Fair and Craft Show - Sunny skies, pleasant Fall temperatures and a group of hard-working volunteers create a fun filled day and successful fund raiser for the church. PHOTOS

Jon Almond returns to North Kingstown UMC -- At right, the pastor who led North Kingstown UMC through the most difficult period in its history was back in the pulpit Sunday September 5. The Rev. Jon Almond, now retired, pinch hit for the ailing Lori Eldredge who recently underwent surgery. Lori is recovering and we continue to pray for her. PHOTOS

Support the North Kingstown Food Pantry -- The need is every day in our community and greater than ever during these tough economic times. Drop off your non-perishable food items at the Food Pantry, located inside North Kingstown United Methodist Church or bring your donations to the church office. A supermarket cart is in the Narthex to receive donations after every Sunday worship. Cash donations made out to the NK Food Pantry are also accepted. MORE
