Youth Group's 30-Hour Famine for World Vision raises $1,026 with more pledges coming; $10, 427 raised over the last decade by the youth of NKUMC

Saturday April 25 to 26, 2009

The youth of NKUMC raised over $1,000 for World Vision hunger relief with more pledges still coming in. This year's goal was to pass the $10 thousand mark in donations collected over the last ten years. With this year's pledges so far, the group has collected $10,427 over the last decade.

In the 30-hour supervised famine, the young people collected sponsor donations from members of the church congregation and the community to benefit World Vision, a Christian charity which supports malnourished and homeless children in under developed nations. Saturday night the kids spent the night in cardboard boxes on the church grounds to raise awareness of the homeless in the world.

As sunset approaches, they prepare the cardboard boxes that will be their homes for the night. The young people also held up signs to passing motorists to raise hunger awareness.

Fortunately, temperatures tonight, unlike many nights for the homeless of the world, will be pleasant
