NORTH KINGSTOWN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Q. Where is your church located?

A. We are located at 450 Boston Neck Road (Route 1A) in the town of North Kingstown, Rhode Island and just outside the village of Wickford. Directions are available on this site by clicking here.

Q. What are your weekly worship times?

A. We have two services each Sunday at 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM for the convenience of worshippers. The 8 AM worship group is usually smaller, more intimate and less formal. The 10 AM group is larger. Both services follow the same worship format, led by our Pastor, The Rev. Lori Eldredge who preaches a sermon at each service. Holy communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month. We also offer special services during the seasons of Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The order of worship for each Sunday is posted on the church website a few days prior to Sunday each week. The text of sermons are posted on the Saturday before Sunday worship.

Q. Do you offer Sunday School and child care?

A. We offer Sunday School for children of all ages. Children leave worship service for Sunday School classes about 10:15 AM each Sunday after the Children’s Lesson with Pastor Lori. Classes are designed by age groups. Child care for the youngest children is provided during the 10 AM worship service with a responsible adult supervising. If you would rather have your children with you during worship, it is your choice.  Adult Sunday School classes are also offered.

Q. I haven’t decided on a church as yet.  Are visitors welcome to attend services or visit your church?

A. We encourage all to visit our church during or outside worship times. We are always honored to have visitors attend our worship service. We feel it is a privilege to have you with us. We believe you will find our congregation friendly and welcoming without adding any pressure to your decision to come again. We will greet you and answer any questions you have. A coffee hour is offered after each worship service allowing all worshippers to engage in fellowship. We invite you to read Pastor Lori's greeting on this site.

Q. What special programs or activities do you have for the congregation?

A. We offer a weekly Bible study group, a weekly crafting group, special dinners for new members, an annual Seniors luncheon and the annual Harvest Stew dinner in the Fall. Through our committees, Evangelism, Missions and others, we are always busy performing God’s work in the community and beyond. We always welcome more participation from our members and congregation. A list of our weekly and upcoming events can be found by checking our Calendar and Happenings page on this site.

We are also active contributors to the North Kingstown Food Pantry. Located in our church, the Pantry provides food for about 50 families each week in our community.

Q. What is the history of your church?

A.  The North Kingstown United Methodist Church has a very interesting history. Founded over 35 years ago by a small group of people, including several Navy families, the congregation grew, suffered a loss in membership during the 70s when a local Navy base closed, and went on to grow again to its present strength of a warm and loving congregation. Several of our charter members are still active members of the church. You can read all about our history on this site by visiting our history page.

Q. Tell me more about the United Methodist denomination?
