Fish Fry, Saturday, September 26, 2009 -- Sponsored by United Methodist Men of North Kingstown UMC

Annual Fish Fry raises $650 for the North Kingstown Food Pantry

Published September 26, 2009

The event, which began several years ago as a small fellowship event of the monthly Men's Breakfast group, was opened for the first time this year to the entire congregation of the church and friends. Donations raised at the dinner supported the North Kingstown Food Pantry, the designated mission of the United Methodist Men's group--chartered from that original Men's Breakfast club. All of the food and supplies for the event were donated purchases by members of UMM, resulting in all the proceeds from $5 ticket sales and the free will donations at the door going to the Food Pantry. $650 was raised for the local food pantry which feeds families in North Kingstown. The NK Food Pantry is housed at North Kingstown United Methodist Church. United Methodist Men still meet for breakfast on the second Saturday of each month at 8 AM. Appetizer course: Warren Halstead's renowned New England and clear Rhode Island 'chowda,' and clams on the half shelve, and steamed clams prepared by Dave Beutel.

About 100 people turned out for the event in the fellowship hall.

Main course featured fish and fries, cole slaw, corn, coffee, soft drinks and cookies for dessert. There was enough food for seconds and some 'take home' plates.

Servant leadership example at its best -- Someone has to do dishes and Jon Eaton stepped up for dishwashing and pot cleaning.
