KEN AND IDA GREEN CELEBRATE 60 YEARS OF MARRIAGE

CELEBRATION AT NORTH KINGSTOWN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, SUNDAY JANUARY 30, 2005

Ken and Ida Green exemplify “servant leadership.”

Long time church member Melvoid Benson rose to address the congregation. She wanted to let newer members know what charter members Ken and Ida Green had done for this church. She eloquently told us how Ken secured a warehouse years ago to store materials that would be used to build the new North Kingstown United Methodist Church. She told us how Ken and Ida along with the other “old salts” from our church’s Navy roots worked to make this church a reality.

When she had finished, Ida rose to speak but was overcome with emotion and couldn’t get out all the words she wanted to say. She managed an emotional “thank you.” Here was a couple who has given us so much over the years without ever expecting a thank you. And now she was thanking us. This always serving, always caring couple exemplifies the spirit of “servant leadership” that is so widespread throughout our church family.

With the greatest love and respect, we thank you Ken and Ida for all you did and all you do.
