North Kingstown United Methodist Church is a vibrant, growing
church seeking a new Music Director to provide music as appropriate to the style
and format of worship during our two Sunday morning services throughout the
year. This includes, but is not limited to, piano and organ music.
The Music Director has principal authority in matters relating to choir supervision, discipline, selection of choral music, and oversight of volunteers and other details pertaining to the musical programs of the Church. The Music Director works cooperatively and closely with the Pastor and the Worship Development Committee in the planning of music so the unity and integrity of worship themes are maintained. The Music Director meets with the Worship Development Committee to discuss, evaluate and plan worship experiences in the church, particularly planning for the Lent/Easter and Advent/Christmas seasons.
The Music Director directs the Chancel Choir at two Sunday morning services, conducts one mid-week rehearsal and two “warm up” rehearsals with the choir each Sunday morning from September through mid-June. The Music Director directs the music when children/youth choir(s) may perform with the Chancel Choir and coordinates the music program for services when the Hand Bell Choir performs.
The Music Director reports to the Board of Trustees the condition and need for any maintenance of the Church organ and piano and is responsible for the development and submission of the music budget to the Finance Committee.
Music is integral to the worship experience. We encourage our Music Directors to seek not only opportunities for personal professional development, but new and innovative ways to translate and spread the Gospel via music in its many forms.
